A Dishonorable Fez-capade

When I was in college, I discovered that I had strong feelings for a young woman who I thought fit very well into my plans for a wife and family eventually. I’m sure most would say that it was “puppy love” rather than a deep and abiding relationship that would end in marriage. As a matter of fact, it did not. However, at the time, I felt that I needed to defend her honor as she, along with several other females, had had water squirted in their faces by conventioneers who walked around town wearing fezzes.  The men of my fraternity decided to punish the conventioneers by harassing them. I paired up with my best friend, and we ended up grabbing a fez and racing back to our car. It seemed like much fun and “the honorable thing to do.” However, as we approached the car, a police car came by, stopped, and questioned why we had someone’s fez. We were then taken to jail and charged $30.00 each. I had never been in trouble before nor had my friend, but the impact of sitting in a jail cell until we were bailed out hopefully set me on the right track. I’ve never had another run-in with the law.
