Getting Smarter

One of the best jobs I’ve ever had was working as a tutor for Get Smart tutoring, a business owned by Jim Linkenback, I learned of the job through a friend who was already working with the Linkenback organization. I applied and was accepted as a tutor in English, study skills, basic math, and French. After several years as a tutor, Jim, who had become a close friend, asked if I would be willing to take over the job of testing students in order to discover their strengths and weaknesses. I agreed and so became a tester and evaluator instead of being a tutor. I teased the boss about the name of our business, Get Smart, and urged him to change the name to Get Smarter. The business was unique from other tutoring services as the tutors went into the homes of the student for tutoring. While working together, Jim Linkenback and I became best of friends. Eventually he sold the business. For years since the business was sold, Jim and Jo have scheduled an annual Get Smart dinner reunion.
