Left Turns

When I leave my house, and am heading west toward Walgreens, Save-A-Lot, Winn-Dixie, Taco Bell, CVS, etc., I almost always turn left onto 49th Street from 15th Avenue North. 49th Street is a major north/south street and can be very busy at times. Knowing when to “jump” in is sometimes quite a challenge. Of course, doing so safely is the main goal. In some manner, every time I make that left turn, I am taking a risk, a risk that pays off when I am careful and not careless. In some ways that left turn is like life’s challenges. At times, we must take risks. Choices are not always a right turn. When I decided to become a school teacher, that was a “right turn.” When I decided to go for a Master’s degree, that was a left turn as it meant studying, working at the same time, and managing a family. I did earn my Master’s which certainly benefitted me in my career as a teacher and my family as I received a pay raise.
