My Friend and My Guru

I have known Jim Scott and his family for years. Jim and I have been thrown together via jobs many times–we were both educators at Northeast High School, Amway distributors, choir director (Jim) and me, pianist/organist at St. Luke’s Methodist church. We were both pretty much raising families at the same time although I had a head start, being the older. Our friendship has even lingered beyond my divorce. Jim’s sense of humor and mine match exactly–we’re both punsters. Now that we are not involved with church, school, or the Amway business, we meet only occasionally, either for a short catch-up visit or my needing help with my computer or sound system. The latest was a crisis with my JVC sound system which shut down. Checking with Jim immediately, I did all that he told me to do but ended up buying a new system which needed to be integrated with my DVR and my TV. When the sales person at Best Buy quoted an installation fee that I considered exorbitant, I called my “guru” and asked if he could possibly come over and “help me” install the new system. He came, he installed, he was the hero. Now, it’s up to me to come up with a way to repay him for his expertise and his friendship. By the way, the new Pioneer sound system  is operating beautifully.
