When the Affordable Care Act became law, it had already been given the derogatory name of Obamacare by the Republicans who had refused to help implement it. For seven years, the Republicans campaigned to have Obamacare repealed. With the advent of the Trump administration, repealing the ACA seemed to be a likely outcome. The Trump administration had done nothing to improve the law. In fact, they had refused advertising for new enrollees. The word was that Obamacare was on a death spiral. In the meantime, efforts to produce a new healthcare program was proving to be not so easy. How dare Republican lawmakers ask Democrats to participate with designing a replacement healthcare program when Republicans have refused to work on improving and stabilizing Obamacare. President Trump has done as much as he can to sully President Obama’s legacy. I hate the partisanship in Washington, but I understand clearly why Democrats refuse to work with Republicans unless they take repealing Obamacare off the docket. I have heard that Donald Trump hates the name “Trumpcare.”
