Tear Off Another Page

2016 began and ended with politics. The election of Donald Trump was a bitter pill for Democrats, and the race saw lower than acceptable campaigning tactics. The unemployment rate continued to fall although economists always seemed to have a “yes, but” comment regarding the improved levels. Florida once again experienced a hurricane and had a very wet summer. In the fall, just as the tropical storm period ended, the rains ceased with October, November, and December quite arid. It seemed at the end of the year that we lost an unusual number of famous entertainers such as Debbie Reynolds and her daughter, Carrie Fisher; Zsa Zsa Gabor, Prince, Alan Rickman, Harper Lee, Pat Conroy, Nancy Reagan, Patty Duke, Mohammad Ali, astronaut John Glenn and, of course, others. Dimitris’ and my travels included a week in the Cayman Islands and a five-day trip to Washington, D.C. My being at home as much as I was toward the end of the year allowed me to purchase and cultivate a tomato plant, which is thriving as we head toward 2017.
