Veterans Day 2016

Restaurants in America have become very good about remembering their veteran patrons especially on Veterans Day with free meals, appetizers, pancakes, etc. This Veterans Day, I had a complimentary Grand Slam at Denny’s–eggs, sausage, bacon, and hash browns. What more could one ask for in a breakfast meal? When we were seated, I was facing Dimitris. What I didn’t realize was that, although he was facing me, he was paying attention over my shoulder to a veteran who admitted to the waitress that he could not pay for the coffee which was not included in the offer. Dimitris spoke to the waitress, assuring her that he would pay for the fellow’s coffee. I was so proud of him and, although I never was face-to-face with the veteran, I heard him thank Dimitris graciously before he left the restaurant. It is reaffirming to have restaurants thank veterans for their service in this way.
