Bridge to Nowhere

When I was in college, I think my grades would have been better if I had not wasted so much time playing bridge. I don’t remember how I first became fascinated with that game, but it had to have been prior to my going away to college. Soon after I arrived at Furman University, I learned that there were several people on my floor in the dormitory who loved playing bridge. When someone was seeking a 4th for the game, I was frequently talked into dropping the books and joining the group. Sometimes these games lasted into the wee hours. Since I worked in the dining room, I had to be up every morning, bright and early, in order to eat breakfast before serving breakfast. I graduated from the university with about a C+ grade point which, I think, might have improved had I not succumbed so often to a game of bridge. Now that I’m retired and have hours of free time, I have no interest in playing bridge.
