America, the Land of the Free

My partner hails from Greece where he was born and raised. Greece, as most people know, is going through a difficult time financially, and things like salaries and pensions have been cut back drastically. What Dimitris has learned since coming to the United States three years ago is that many things in America are free for the asking. Although, because of his age, he cannot get free senior drinks, he has learned that the trick is, that by signing up for membership at different restaurant organizations, he receives all sorts of discounts for upcoming meals. Among the benefits are free entrees, appetizers, and desserts in celebration of his birthday. His birthday was October 18th and his birthday coupons were for full meals at Olive Garden and Carmelita’s; a free Smoothie at Burger King; a free $10.00 hamburger at Ruby Tuesdays; a free Grand Slam at Denny’s; a coupon for an $8.50 dessert at  TGI Fridays, etc. No wonder he has decided that America is the land of the free.
