Hop-on, Hop-off

Our visit to Hong Kong began in the dark at the airport where we were met by my good friend, Harry Brown, who has lived and worked in Hong Kong for the past seven years. He became our tour guide and companion as he took one of the hop-on, hop-off tour buses with us for two days. Besides the taped accompaniment that we listened to, Harry was there to add depth to the coverage and personal information about the culture of the city. The big drawback to our stay in this multi-cultural city was rain and drizzle every day. The clouds were so low that the day we traveled by boat to Kowloon island and rode the funicular up to The Peak, we could see very little of the city because of low clouds and fog. Our most positive experience in the city was meeting several very nice couples who had breakfast with us in our Holiday Inn Express. They too were Americans exploring this fascinating city with its pencil-thin skyscrapers and luxuriant vegetation. This was my first trip to Asia, and I was greatly impressed. The night before we left, we returned to Kowloon in order to watch the laser show against the Hong Kong skyline. Below is a picture taken that night.

The hop-on – hop off tours are the best way to visit any place. My husband and I just visited Savannah and St. Augustine and enjoyed hoping on and off interesting places around these two cities.
