An Agonizing Week

On Monday, March 21st, the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative went off-line in order to install a new system. During the time it was down, it was impossible to track reservations. To many people, I’m sure this was no big deal. To me, a library addict, it was agony. I usually check the library site several times a day, checking to see if a book or a DVD is waiting to be picked up. It is so exciting to see “Holds” next to an item I have reserved. Last week, no “holds,” no “pending,” no nothing. It’s was like getting no mail for a week. The biggest slap in the face though was reading on the site that the information would be available again on Friday, the 25th. When Friday came, I checked all day to no avail. In fact, the library website did not come online again until Monday, the 28th. By then, my nerves were completely frayed. I pray that this new library system is healthy for a very long time. There is one more request that I would make: please let us once again know where we are in the queue. We deserve to know that fact.
