The Lottery

No, I did not win the Florida Lottery. Can’t. I don’t buy lottery tickets. I am one of those strange people who do not want to win the lottery. I don’t think bad of those who purchase lottery tickets unless they over-buy and get themselves into financial trouble. My problem with the lottery would be winning. I do not want that responsibility, and I don’t believe in easy money. When I was younger, I tried several gaming types of things and learned that I could be a compulsive gambler as I don’t know when to stop, regardless of how little chance there is of winning. I admire the people who say that they enjoy gambling and limit the amount of money they are going to risk to an acceptable maximum. I know there are other people who are desperate because they spend far more money than they can afford on lottery tickets. My bowling buddy used to buy $10.00 worth of tickets every Saturday morning. When I questioned him as to why, he said, “It supports education.” Since, at that time I was a high school teacher, I encouraged him to give me the $10.00 so that he knew it was going directly to education.

Good one! I don’t participate in lotteries also, but for other reasons. Not that I don’t believe in winning. I actually do. Saved my life once.
