The Timely Interview

As most of you know, my partner Dimitris is Greek. We met online three years ago, each of us traveled to the other one’s country once, and then we began trying to figure out how we could live together. Eventually, after deciding to live here in Florida, we were married on August 8th. At that time, the Dimitris’ immigration process was already in full swing. He had already taken the first step and had been fingerprinted. A month or so later, he received his card which gave him permission to travel and to work. He applied for and received his social security card. The last element of the process involves having an interview with an immigration judge. That interview, which is scheduled by Homeland Security, has been on our minds for quite a while. Every mail delivery has been carefully checked for a letter from immigration. One evening this week, when Dimitris checked the immigration site, he found a note saying that we are scheduled for the interview on January 23, 2016. That could not be a more timely date as Dimitris will fly to Greece on December 27th and will return on January 22nd. We consider the timely news of that interview a wonderful Christmas present.
