Philately

When I was growing up, I loved to order items by mail, and one of the most exciting things I could order were stamps. At some point, as my collection grew, my parents bought me a nice, big stamp album, and I laboriously collected stamps from stamp collection agencies and from pen pals with whom I corresponded. After collecting individual stamps from all over the world, I began writing for first-day of issue commemorative envelopes and block fours, when new commemorative stamps were issued. I bought the little adhesives that protected the stamps when I matched them with the area and country and mounted them in the album. I fantasized of the future when my stamp collection would be worth a fortune. Today, it is difficult to get postal authorities to put real stamps on postal items. Then too, “snail” mail is the result of the alacrity of corresponding by e-mail. So, here I am at age 77 thinking about my stamp collection which has disappeared. I have no idea where that book is. I know that it is safely hidden somewhere but where, I do not know. Yesterday, I happened to come upon the stamps pictured below and got all excited again about stamp collecting. These Marilyn Monroe stamps are in mint condition.
