Bursts of Splenda

I have a ritual that I follow every morning: I drink a bottle of water before having a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I set up the instant coffee to be made only after I have drunk my water while reading e-mails, entering yesterday’s news into my journal, and writing these blogs. My coffee consists of a shake of powdered cream, a heaping teaspoon and one-half of instant coffee, a level spoon of sugar, and one packet of Splenda. The Splenda is in a different cupboard than the creamer, sugar, and instant coffee. It is in the cupboard that doesn’t have to be opened from the top. Yesterday, as I prepared my coffee, I noticed that I pulled the last packet of Splenda out of the container and realized that I would need to refill it in the morning. This morning, as I reached for a packet of Splenda, I remembered that yesterday’s packet was the last one. However, what I found was a container filled with packets of Splenda. There can be only one refiller other than myself–my wonderful partner, Dimitris. He seldom even drinks coffee which made the deed ever more emotional. We call these emotional interractions “bursts.” I definitely had a burst when I found that Splenda container full.
