The Void

The Christmas holidays are a time for reflection, families, buying, and giving. It is also a time when news is hard to come by. Newscasters are taking a vacation, Congress is not in session, and journalists are looking for items of importance to report. Of course, news still happens but at a reduced rate during the holidays. For news hounds, it is a time of deflation, a kind of “Peace On Earth” that, in reality, is just a ceasefire. Why tune in if Andrea Mitchell is not going to be there for her show at noon? Why stay up for Rachel Maddow when she is going to have a substitute moderator? Why tune in to NBC news to see a poodle dog wagging its tail when its owner shows up? I know my complaints must sound like bah humbug, and they are. Thank goodness this Christmas the North Koreans were acting up, storms were causing lengthy delays at the nation’s airports, and Marco Rubio was raising Cain about the restoration of diplomatic relations with Cuba. Otherwise, we would probably be getting only recipes for fruit cakes.
