Promise Fulfilled

In Greece, there are two very important days in everyone’s life–his/her birthday and name day. The name day is based on saints for whom the individual is named. For my partner’s birthday, I promised him a laptop computer. Since he arrived in March, we have been sharing my desktop computer very amicably. When we shopped for laptops earlier, we found them to be rather expensive and were advised to wait until we could get a real bargain as the laptop  was for convenience rather than need. Dimitris’ birthday was in October so it’s been almost two months that the promised gift has been postponed. However, the perfect time came with Black Friday. Advertised at Office Depot was a Toshiba laptop, 15.2″, priced at a super low price with a wireless mouse advertised at $8.99. Since we did not leave to shop at the break of day, we were unsure as to whether Office Depot would still have that model at that bargain price. Surprise! There it was for the taking. Since Friday, Dimitris has been setting up the computer, installing the anti-virus, setting up his e-mail, and installing Picasa, the wonderful program for storing and re-configuring photos. It felt good to finally follow through on my promise. Happy birthday, Dimitris.
