The “Golf” Tournament

According to Wikipedia, “Golf” (also known as Polish Polka, Polish Poker, Turtle, Hara Kiri, or Crazy Nines[1]) is a card game where players try to earn the lowest number of points (as in golf, the sport) over the course of nine deals (or “holes” to further use golfing terminology). I am not known for my enjoyment of games, but my friends are, and they invited me over for dinner and a game of “Golf.” The dinner was delicious; the “Golf” game was interesting, fun, but not something I would want to do very often. My friends tease me when we play games as they know it is not my favorite activity. There were six of us–the Lawrences, the Martins, Dimitris and me. Dimitris seemed to catch on to the game right away while I was still struggling at the end to master the concept. However, as things can go with “beginner’s luck,” when the scoring ended, and someone crossed the 100 line, I was the winner with a 63. Never before in my life have I ever scored a 63 when playing golf.
