Alternate Route

When you are headed to the airport on I-275 and a sign over the highway flashes “crash three miles ahead–two lanes closed,” do not take the alternate route as I did. Although my immediate destination was the Tampa airport, my ultimate destination was Athens, Greece. After taking the alternate route over the Gandy bridge, my driver friend and I missed a turn as we neared the airport, and we found ourselves in a no-turn-around lane headed back to I-275 in the opposite direction of the airport. I’d never before missed a flight, but it appeared that my luck might be running out as we headed back in the direction from which we had started. I have to admit that my savior was my volunteer driver who had insisted on our leaving three hours prior to my departure time. Reader, I did make my connection and happily arrived at my destination in Greece the next afternoon.
