Rain, Rain, Go Away

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Governing Board voted Feb. 26, 2013, to impose the stricter restrictions due to reduced river levels and water supply concerns. Officials say although December rainfall totals were near normal, rainfall in January and February fell short by about 3.5 inches. I took this warning as a sign that I should get my sprinkler system in good working order. It had not been working correctly for a while so I called a sprinkler service and ended up spending about $400.00 getting the system working correctly. I even installed a gauge that would prevent my sprinklers from coming on if I had had .15 inch of rain the day before. I was assigned Sunday as my watering day. Then June arrived and with it, rains like we haven’t seen in ages. First a tropical storm paid us a visit. Then the dip in the jet stream sent torrential rains to our county for five days, beginning July 4th. Every Sunday I keep waiting to see if my sprinklers are working properly, and I guess they are since the regulator stops them from coming on automatically. How about a break so I can see my sprinklers perform again!
