It seems to me that there are two prominent figures in the American public eye who have been blackballed without good reason. The first is the President of the United States–Barack Obama. I have watched Republicans vote against every bill this president has supported, even bills that, in the past, they have supported. Pat Toomey (R), who helped sponsor the firearms background check bill with Joe Manchin (D), admitted after the defeat of the bill that many of his fellow Republican senators had voted against the bill because they didn’t want President Obama to have a win. The opposition was announced in the early days of the Obama administration when Mitch McConnell declared that his first goal was insuring that Obama would be a one-term president. The reason for this opposition, in my opinion, is primarily racial. The other figure who appears to be running into irrational opposition is the Christian football player, Tim Tebow. According to what I read, Tebow is a persona non grata with his most egregious problem being his public displays of his faith in Jesus Christ. I can’t imagine how either of these two men deal with the rejection they must feel from opposition that is so irrational.
