My cable, internet, and phone provider is Bright House. One stormy afternoon, all three went out, and I wrote the following in my journal:
Today, it is raining at my house. It isn’t just raining — it’s RAINING. I love the rain. It makes my flowers grow. It washes my car. It sounds good on my skylight. I always think: just so long as the electricity doesn’t go out, I’ll be fine. Well, the electricity hasn’t gone out. The lights are on; the air conditioning is on. Then why am I depressed? Because the internet is out, the cable TV is out, and my telephone is out. I have multiple services from Bright House. Why didn’t I realize that I could lose all three of those services at the same time? I called and reported it, and the recording talked to me very nicely. It even said that I would receive a call when service is restored. Oh, I’ll get over it — when the internet and the cable TV and the telephone come back on, and even maybe I’ll remember to be a bit more grateful for these conveniences. Lordy mercy. I miss my three friends.
