About Face

About two years ago, after joining Facebook at my brother’s urging, I withdrew my profile and decided I could live without social media as part of my life. Until now, I had been content to remain aloof from Facebook until I started my blog, which I publish every other day. My readership has grown, but the growth has been slow. I realized that with a Facebook membership I would have a much larger reminder when I publish my blog entries. I therefore made the decision to rejoin Facebook but to keep it simple.

On the first day of my reactivated membership, I had some teenage girl ask me to friend her. Thinking she was a friend of one of my relatives, I friended her only to find out that she was not a friend of the family but was looking to communicate with an older man. Yikes! How do you “un-friend” someone? Believe me, I figured that out quickly.

I’m not sure how long I will stick with my Facebook membership. I basically don’t like the idea of “friending.” I much prefer making real friends and keeping my life more private than public. Hopefully, you’re reading this blog as a result of my blog address on Facebook. If so, you are certainly a “friend” for reading my blog. Make a comment and come back again.

My feelings about facebook entirely. I think I have 18 friends and am mainly an observer on FB not a participant.

Thom, I will read you regardless of whether or not you are on Facebook. I use Facebook to keep up with my kids, grandkids, sister and brother. Without it I fear I’d miss out on what’s going on with them…..they are all so ‘into’ the facebook thing. Like you, I mostly observe though but will comment once in awhile…..

There is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother … but he is not on FaceBook, He is on something much bigger and better!
