It’s About Time

I am so proud of the president and vice president of the United States for taking such a firm stand regarding gun control. It has taken too many deaths to get us to this point, but hopefully we are going to take steps to protect our citizenry that have been needed for a long time. I am not a member of the National Rifle Association. I do not, in fact, own a gun. I refute the idea espoused by Mr. Lapierre of the NRA that the only way to stop a bad man with a gun is a good man toting a gun. More guns are not the answer. I believe fewer guns is a logical response. I don’t believe guns should be taken away from people, but I very much support the idea of closing the loopholes regarding background checks, eliminating the sale of assault rifles to everyone but military and police, and making unavailable some of these multiple clips that allow a gunman to spray death without reloading. Those ideas, to me, are so logical. Hunters would still be allowed to hunt. The throw-back by pro-guns lobbies and super conservative groups is the belief that citizens need to protect themselves against the government. Those are the conspiracy theorists. I hope that now is the time to come up with multi-faceted legislation to aid in the fight to decrease the rate of gun violence. Sandy Hook must not happen again.
