Sail Away with Me

I have never considered myself a frequent cruise ship traveler although I have been fortunate enough to do four cruises thus far: one to Greece and the Greek isles; one around the Mediterranean starting and ending in Rome; one in the Caribbean (St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Barbados, Granada, Tobago, Aruba and Curacao), and one beginning in Vancouver, Canada, followed by a tour of Alaska, and ending up in San Diego, California. I learned on these trips that the important thing is not so much where you go but with whom you are traveling. The Caribbean islands and the glaciers of Alaska, although each offered unique vistas, became pretty much a jumble of scenic memories. I will also admit that being pampered by the Celebrity‘s staff and crew, enjoying the elegance of the ship itself, and being entertained by professionals in extravagant musical presentations greatly impressed me. However, it was my traveling companions on these last two cruises — all from Kenosha and Racine, Wisconsin — who made these adventures at sea most memorable.
