John 3:16

During a church service a few Sundays ago, I remembered an event that meant so much to me. It occurred years ago when I was directing choirs at Lake Maggiore Baptist Church in south St. Pete. We were practicing on a Christmas cantata, and I had asked three choir members to give testimonies during the presentation. I had also advised them that I didn’t want them to practice their testimonies as I wanted them to be spontaneous and un-rehearsed. One of the testimonials came from Donna Spence, one of my sopranos. I’ll never forget the beginning of her testimony when she said: “I came to understand just how much Jesus loved me when I learned that the Scriptures were personal and that God so loved Donna that He gave His only begotten son that Donna should be saved.” Wow! I’ll never forget that moment, the moment a young woman in my choir taught me that Scripture was supposed to be “alive” and not just in the Bible.
