Obama, Why I Care

Many of us who voted for Barack Obama have been disappointed in the inability of his administration to effect the changes we expected him to make in Washington, D.C. Although he has been able to make some very important changes, his failure to eliminate the Bush tax cuts and to bring about the “big” reduction in the deficit were disappointing. In his defense, his determination to make Washington a town that was not separated into “reds” and “blues” was sabotaged when one side became known as “the party of NO.” When Mitch McConnell, the house majority leader, said that his number one goal was to make President Obama a one-term president, we were given proof that jobs were not the number one goal of the Republican party. In fact, it appeared that they would be willing to sacrifice improvement in the national economy in order to get Barack Obama out of office. John Boehner is known for his shouting “Hell, no!” to make his point. I’m glad the President has not lowered himself to that commonality. My hope is that he is like the boxer, Mickey Ward, in the movie, “The Fighter.” He lets the other “guy” beat him up and then pulls the big punch in the 9th round.
